Wisdom of the Ages - Part 3 Old Love

OLD LOVE

(40 years old)

Their’s was a confident love,

enveloping their past,

centered around their present

and secure in their future.

A comfortable love,

perceived as unexciting to some,

but that encircled them like a newly spun cocoon.

An enduring love,

always present when they most needed it —

a rugged cane of sturdy wood to lean on

carved with the formidable times they had shared.

An unconditional love

as they had quit trying to change each other;

instead appreciated the little quirks that previously drove them to distraction.

A tender love,

a cherished hand to hold, a hug, a look across the room;

someone to tend to them when they were sick.

Someone so familiar

that they knew what the other needed before it was spoken.
