Dear Zach, Jake, Sam and Drew,

Forty years ago, I married my best friend.  When Pop asked me to marry him,  I said “I’ll marry you but just so you know I intend to have four children.  So, if you don’t want four children, don’t marry me.”  It was one of the few things I felt certain about.  Marrying your Pop was one of the best things that ever happened to me.  Having you four boys was the next best thing.  As is true of most people who decide to have a child, I had no idea what I was in for.  The challenges of raising you four were only surpassed by the joys.  And you taught me more about life and love and living than I could have ever learned on my own.  I watched in awe as you grew from tiny babies to toddlers, teenagers and the extraordinary young men you have become. I watched you become you. This is a book in which I would like to share with you how I became ME.

Love, Mom
